    I remember flying into Dubai, you could see the building sticking up and out of the smog layer. When I asked the pilot about it they said they never see that anywhere else. #vertigo

    My college dorm was 14 stories high at the top, and there was a study lounge up there. Occasionally, we'd get some pretty strong winds -- from 80 to 100 mph -- and it was always fun to study up there when the gales came in. You could go to the restrooms and watch the water slosh around the toilet bowls. Good times. #vertigo

    @Kaiser-Machead: It wouldn't kill anybody according to the Mythbusters. They tested a penny moving at terminal velocity and it didn't cause enough damage to a ballistics gel dummy to assume death if it hit a human...it'd be pretty damn cool, though. #vertigo

    @Yinzers Are People Too: Heck, Adam had Jamie fire a penny at terminal velocity from a modified air-nailer at his hand and it didn't even break the skin. The fastest a penny is going to fall in the atmosphere is roughly 50-60mph. Not only that, I doubt the penny would ever make it to the ground in the first place. Skyscrapers have unusual wind currents going up their sides. The wind currents would probably carry you penny back up towards you. #vertigo

    They've got some respectable engineering talent, but I get the feeling it won't be built for 5-50 million pounds. Due to London's fairly unique geology (among large cities), structures like that need very complex and expensive foundations. That's why there aren't many skyscrapers in London, outside of the financial district (Canary Wharf).

    If I were a betting man, I'd bet the plan would be to use the initial funding to begin construction, then go begging to the government for the extra £100m required to make it work. #thecloudlondonbubblesspheres

    It sounds like they're relying on the shape + the reflectance of the glass which would only work during specific times of day.

    Regarding fiber optics, they can redirect light but I've never seen an application where they "funnel" light. I suppose if you had a series of fiber optics and lenses to condense the beams it might work... Regardless, there's nothing to this design that suggests it would gather more light than if the cone were replace with just a hole.
